Church Consultations With BSMC

The purpose of the church is to represent Jesus well. This is not a function of size, but of discerned action in obedience to God’s direction. Most consultations focus on generating changes in external, surface-level metrics (attendance, etc.). We help you look deeper. While we will address external metrics as part of the process, the FOCUS of our consultation is on missional effectiveness.

BSMC can help your church with three different types of consultation. Depending on your need , BSMC offers three consultation options: The Focued Consultation, The Comprehensive Consultation, and The Small Church Journey.   • A consultation  helps your church do the following:

    1. Ensure and maintain a healthy spiritual environment so that congregants continue to grow closer to Christ and mature in faith;

    2. Assist a church in identifying its unique skill sets and passions for ministry, and where they intersect with the community they serve.

    3. Develop action plans to put “boots on the ground” in serving the local community in Jesus name. Since each church is unique, we do not bring “cookie-cutter” ideas for implementation, but help your church to discover customized ministry relevant to your church and community.

  • Here’s a general idea of what a consultation entails. The process with be a little different depending on the type of consultation you choose, so please contact and we’ll gladly give you the details on the process for your particular choice.

    The general outline:

    1. Initial Interview

      We will visit with church leadership to determine the goals you hope to achieve with your consultation. The conversation may take place in person, by video conferencing, or phone, depending on circumstances.

    2. Pre-visit data gathering

      We will ask you for key data that tell a bit of the story of your church. This would include: attendance figures; financial trends; congregational involvement; staff data; governing structure and documents; website and social media usage.

      We will engage in pre-visit surveys and conversations that give insight into the mission, vision, and values of your church.

      Depending on the type of consultation, we may also gather data and information on YOUR community. 

    3. Virtual Or On-site Visit

      Depending on the need, we will spend time with you and learn first-hand about your church. We’ll get to know your stories, schedule interviews with leadership, individuals, and/or conduct focus groups.

    4. Final Report

      After the on-site visit, we will prepare a comprehensive report of findings, strengths, challenges, and concrete action steps to take in your mission.

      Optional Additions

    5. Scheduled Follow-Up

      Based on your choice, a follow up meeting an be scheduled to discuss progress, adjustments and secondary steps. This can be helpful in navigating the implemented changes successfully and maintaining momentum.

    6. Coaching Option

      Ongoing coaching can be added for the key leader to assist in thinking through key implementation steps

  • Each consultation we do is unique to your church and customized to your needs.
